HEAT – 4th BIENNIAL NATIONAL JURIED EXHIBITION (2024)

We are (Daniel H. Dugas and Valerie LeBlanc) and  happy to have works selected for the GFAA’s Biennial National Juried Exhibition: ‘HEAT’!

This exhibition was inspired by the book, The Heat Will Kill You First by Jeff Goodell

“When HEAT comes, it’s invisible. It doesn’t bend tree branches or blow hair across your face to let you know it’s arrived…The sun feels like the barrel of a gun pointed at you.”

– Jeff Goodell, The Heat Will Kill You First

For this exhibition artists were asked to submit artworks that relate to the first order threat and prime mover of all other impacts of our climate crisis – HEAT. The works selected explore the concept of ‘heat’ as it relates to a warming planet: how it impacts our environment, bodies, lifestyles, landscapes and structures. The year 2023 was the warmest year since global records began in 1850. In the future will we look back and remark how cool it was in 2023?  Where do we go from here? How do we keep our cool? What do we lose if we fail?
